Gun violence has been a hot topic in the media in recent years. Perhaps it has to do with the ridiculous number of innocent lives lost due to gun-related accidents in the US. According to The Washington Post, “more than 210,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since Columbine.” So it’s baffling just how people can think that this footage of a four-year-old child pumping a gun and pulling the trigger is OK. There is NOTHING OK about this At all.
The footage shows young ‘Maverick’ appearing to play with a gun on display at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention in Dallas, Texas. The little one is approached by Kendall Jones, who according to her website, is a “Texas raised hunter, cheerleader, and Texas tech Alumna.” Raised “in the outdoors as a huntress,” Jones is often remembered for images of herself next to her many ‘kills’ and is unapologetic about her hunting. She currently holds the record for the youngest person to harvest the Africa Big Five, which includes killing a white rhino, lion, cape buffalo, leopard and an African elephant.

    1. Kinda untrue…kids in the country and especially in some other countries are introduced very early to guns to protect eventually protect there farm animals and even family at some point.

They often become more responsible and you very rarely here of accidents…so in all honesty it really depends

      1. Good point…

And there is definitely more than one gun culture… and some are obviously less responsible than others…

I was raised in one of the more responsible gun cultures and my attitude toward guns is completely different than the woman in this video…

As a boy, my great grandfather who was old school rural kept a loaded shotgun hanging on the wall above his bed for anyone to grab… but we knew better as kids…

Guns were for hunting and protecting your property and required skill to use… and they were anything but toys for the hands of toddlers…

Hanging a loaded shotgun on the wall of a bedroom nowadays will bring child protective service to your door quick fast and in a hurry…

Gun culture is like sex culture… in that everyone reading this sentence is here because of sex but our different attitudes about sex reflect the culture that we were raised in… and some sex cultures are far less responsible than others…
