Dion Waiters Reportedly Overdoses On Weed Gummies & Has A Seizure On Miami Heat Plane
Former Syracuse basketball star Dion Waiters missed a Miami Heat game Friday night after reportedly overdosing on “gummies.”
Waiters was listed as out due to illness several hours before tipoff against the Los Angeles Lakers. Miami sports radio host Andy Slater says Waiters had a medical emergency on the team’s plane flying from Phoenix to L.A. on Thursday night, according to sources.
“Waiters overdosed on ‘gummies,’ sources say, and was passed out when plane landed. He had a seizure when he was finally woken up, I’m told,” Slater wrote on Twitter. “Waiters was listed out tonight.”
Waiters has not commented. A Heat spokesman told Slater that the team cannot comment due to medical confidentiality laws.
It’s unclear what kind of edibles Waiters was allegedly consuming.
The incident follows a one-game suspension Waiters served for the Heat’s season opener last month due to “conduct detrimental to the team.” According to the Miami Herald, Waiters has now missed the first nine games of the 2019-2020 NBA season; the Heat are 6-3 after losing to the Lakers, 95-80, on Friday.
Waiters is in the third season of a four-year, $52 million contract with the Heat. The Herald reports he’ll receive a $1.1 million bonus if he appears in at least 70 of Miami’s 82 games this season.
