North Texas Student Labeled N-word On Dining Hall Receipt

A dining hall employee at the University of North Texas was fired after he identified a fellow student with a racial slur on her meal receipt. Communications major Chelsea Shaw tweeted out an image of the receipt from Krispy Krunchy Chicken — the word “n—-r” was written where her name should have been. “I need answers…” she wrote beneath the image. Shaw was joined by several other students and social media users in directly tweeting at UNT President Neal Smatresk — and within a few hours she had some of the answers she’d been looking for. The student worker behind the slur was promptly fired and additional disciplinary action is under review by the Dean of Students’ Office, according to university spokeswoman Leigh Anne Gullett. “We found out that it was not the cashier, it was actually the cook who did it. The cook came out and apologized to the manager,” said UNT retail dining services executive director Bill McNeace in an interview with North Texas Daily. “The cook, though, his employment has been terminated. As soon as we found out, we let the person go.”
