Rick Ross has shown his support for Drake despite opting not to play his verses during his recent VERZUZ event with French Montana.
On the May 8 episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life Review, following the latest VERZUZ installment, Rozay explained why he skipped Drizzy’s verses during the show. He stated that his decision stemmed from his position as a “boss.” He added, “Drake, if you’re listening to this, homie, listen to me, my n****, shine.” “I don’t want to see you lose. No real n**** wants to see you lose. That ain’t what it’s about. This culture, this game, this rap, this ain’t what it’s about.”
Ross and Drake have collaborated frequently over the past decade, joining forces on tracks like “Aston Martin Music,” “Stay Schemin'” (which also featured Montana), “Money in the Grave,” and more.
Their friendship deteriorated in 2024, during the time Drizzy was involved in his feud with Kendrick Lamar, when Ross accused his former friend of disloyalty and relying on ghostwriters.
In his conversation on Rap Life Review, Ross recounted telling DJ Nasty that he would perform certain songs “minus the Drake vocals” and emphasized that Montana doesn’t have an issue with Drizzy. “It’s deeper than rap,” Ross remarked.
“We never said you weren’t qualified,” Ross clarified. “But homie, what we were saying at the time was speaking for you.”
Ross also reminisced about Montana introducing him to Drake before the Toronto rapper became an RIAA diamond-certified star. However, the “Hustlin'” artist couldn’t conclude without a lighthearted jab at Drake’s physical features, joking that they met when the Toronto rapper had a “big nose.”
