The Full Story

The attack transpired on Monday evening, while Sgt. Stephanie Dodd attended to a disturbance at the cell of convict Monica Gandy.

Gandy has been charged with retaliation against a public official and attempted grand larceny.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office reported that Gandy disregarded all verbal directives, and upon Dodd opening the cell door, Gandy promptly assaulted Dodd with punches.

Subsequent to their fall, the inmate severed a segment of Dodd’s eyelid/eyebrow. Gandy has been indicted for assaulting a county jail official.

Judge David Morrow has established her bond for this new charge at $100,000.

Dodd has undergone treatment at a nearby hospital, receiving numerous stitches to heal the bite wound, and is currently in recovery.
