The incident happened at Crumbl’s Midtown location on South Kings Drive. The video appeared to show one employee applying oil to a coworker’s scalp and styling their hair inside the cookie shop.
According to a customer who witnessed the incident, the hair styling was happening around 9:15 p.m. Friday. After recording part of the interaction, the customer entered the store and confronted the workers about what he believed was unsanitary behavior.
The witness claimed the employee responded, “Do you see me cooking?” when questioned about handling hair inside the business. The customer ultimately left without purchasing anything and later contacted Crumbl’s corporate office to report the incident.
As the footage spread across social media, Crumbl issued a statement describing the employees’ behavior as “unacceptable” and inconsistent with the company’s standards.
The company said it immediately closed the store, discarded all dough inside the location and hired a professional cleaning crew. Crumbl later confirmed that the employees shown in the video no longer work for the company.
It remains unclear whether the workers were directly fired over the incident or chose to resign.
The Midtown store remained closed throughout Monday for cleaning before reopening on Tuesday. Crumbl emphasized that all its locations are expected to follow strict health and safety policies.
The controversy quickly gained attention online, with many viewers arguing that personal grooming should never take place in a food-service environment—even if the employees were not actively preparing cookies at the time.
